SAN DIEGO – Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen on Monday at the MLB Winter Meetings indicated that Yoenis Cespedes, who has missed the last 1 ½ seasons recovering from surgery on both heels and ankle fractures, has begun a running program.
Cespedes has also been hitting and throwing, but Van Wagenen isn’t ready to say when the outfielder might return.
“We have to be smart and not assume anything from anyone and try to create talent on our roster and potentially try to create impact, and if [Cespedes] is at his best, he’s a high-impact performer,” Van Wagenen said.
