Only five innings into his second start since returning from the disabled list, Yoenis Cespedes had to leave the game.
The Mets outfielder departed before the sixth inning at Citi Field on Monday, after a discussion with team trainer Ray Ramirez in the dugout. The Mets said he left with a sore left heel. Ramirez and manager Terry Collins had checked on Cespedes in left field before the start of the fifth.
Cespedes returned to the lineup Saturday — his first action since hitting the DL on April 28 with a strained left hamstring — and smashed a grand slam in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Braves. But Collins rested Cespedes in the nightcap and again on Sunday.
Cespedes said before he took the field Saturday that he wasn’t sure he could run 100 percent, but indicated his legs were good enough to play. In addition to the strained left hamstring, Cespedes incurred soreness in his right quadriceps during his rehab.
