TORONTO — There are signs of life from Yoenis Cespedes.

The Mets outfielder — who has been on the disabled list since May 16 with soreness in his right hip flexor and quadriceps — began a running program this week in Port St. Lucie, according to manager Mickey Callaway.

It was Cespedes’ most extensive activity since an abbreviated rehab stint ended for Double-A Binghamton on June 9.

“The goal was to get the soreness completely out before he started running and he came in the other day and it was gone,” Callaway said before the Mets’ ugly 8-6 loss to the Blue Jays Tuesday night. “So they got him on his feet and got him running.”

Cespedes ran at “about 75 percent,” according to Callaway.

The Blue Jays held a pregame video tribute for Jose Bautista in his first game back at Rogers Centre since his departure from the organization last offseason.

Bautista, a six-time All-Star with the club, received a standing ovation before his first at-bat and tipped his helmet. During a pregame gathering with local reporters, he indicated he understood the Blue Jays’ decision to decline his $17 million option for 2018.

“I can’t say I was angry — it was a business decision and an understandable one,” said the 37-year-old Bautista, who posted a .674 OPS last season. “I am not naïve or selfish enough to believe they should have done it. The numbers speak for themselves and it wasn’t my best year, that’s no secret.”

Bautista worked pregame with Glenn Sherlock to show the Mets third-base coach the nuances of playing the right-field fence. Such information could be valuable in Sherlock’s decisions to send or hold runners.

“It just makes you realize how well you know this stadium,” Bautista said.

Noah Syndergaard and Jason Vargas both pitched in a simulated game in Port St. Lucie and likely will be headed to minor league rehab starts, according to Callaway. The manager ruled out the possibility either pitcher would be ready for Monday’s doubleheader against the Phillies at Citi Field.

Syndergaard has been sidelined with a strained ligament in his right index finger and Vargas has a calf injury.

Devin Mesoraco left the game in the seventh after he was hit on the head by Yangervis Solarte’s backswing an inning earlier.

Mesoraco was also hit in the face by a pitch that drilled Devon Travis in the fifth. Mesoraco tested negative for a concussion, according to manager Callaway, but will be reevaluated Wednesday.
