TAMPA — Yogi Berra’s fall Thursday in Clearwater wasn’t caused by him catching a sneaker on a clubhouse carpet.

That’s the way GM Brian Cashman described the accident shortly after it happened.

The Hall of Famer and Yankees icon tumbled backward after the soup he sipped was too hot. Berra’s head went back and he lost his balance.

“Didn’t like the soup,” Berra said this morning at George M. Steinbrenner Field when asked how Clearwater was.

Against his wishes, Berra was taken to Morton Plant Hospital. He was examined and released late Thursday afternoon.
