Zack Wheeler isn’t disappointed the Mets scuttled their proposed deal with the Brewers for Carlos Gomez.

Though Wilmer Flores received much of the attention Wednesday, when it was believed the infielder was headed to Milwaukee for Gomez, there was another party involved.

The centerpiece of the deal, from the Brewers’ perspective, was Wheeler — who underwent Tommy John surgery in March and likely won’t return before midseason in 2016.

“I’d like to be a part of what we have going on here in New York with the other guys on our pitching staff and other players as well,” Wheeler told The Post on Thursday.

Gomez is still the Brewers property after the Mets nixed the proposed deal over concerns about the outfielder’s hip.

Wheeler began throwing earlier this week in Port St. Lucie, Fla., and indicated it would be difficult to leave the organization just as it appears ready for a revival.

According to an industry source, Wheeler’s name also was discussed with the Rockies last winter, when Colorado was exploring the possibility of dealing Troy Tulowitzki. The All-Star shortstop was traded to Toronto earlier this week, but not before Mets general manager Sandy Alderson spoke with Colorado officials about Tulowitzki. It is unclear whether Wheeler’s name surfaced during those discussions.

But the Mets are still the most appealing option as far as Wheeler is concerned.

“I’ve been here for a few years during the rebuilding stages,” he said. “I’ve been working my butt off down here to get back to being a better and healthier athlete, and I’d like to stay until we get the job done.”
