VJ Edgecombe has completed the journey from a tiny island to Long Island to the NBA.

The Baylor guard, who was born in the Bahamas before playing his high school ball at Long Island Lutheran, went No. 3 overall to the 76ers in Wednesday’s NBA draft.

He became the highest-drafted player from the Bahamas since Deandre Ayton went first overall to Phoenix in 2018.

“The emotions [are] flying,” Edgecombe said. “I came from a small island that’s only seven miles long. Everybody knows everybody. Just a small island. It’s like a little rock.

“Just to make it out of there, it means the world. It means the world to me, and I know it means the world to my island.”

The 19-year-old Edgecombe, a 6-foot-4 guard, averaged 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists as a freshman at Baylor.

“I don’t know what to say about that. I have no insider information, if that’s what you’re looking for,” Flagg replied. “But I just feel blessed for the way it all worked out.”
