Adam Silver wouldn’t let Draymond Green’s career end with a punch to the face.
Green, whom the NBA reinstated Saturday from an indefinite suspension that lasted 12 games, said on Monday’s episode of “The Draymond Green Show” that the NBA commissioner talked him out of retiring.
“I told him, ‘Adam this is too much for me. … This is too much. It’s all becoming too much for me — and I’m going to retire,’” the Warriors star said, as transcribed by ESPN. “And Adam said, ‘You’re making a very rash decision and I won’t let you do that.’
“We had a long, great conversation — very helpful to me. Very thankful to play in a league with a commissioner like Adam who’s more about helping you than hurting you; helping you than punishing you. He’s more about the players.”
Green is currently working his way back from the suspension he received after hitting Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face on Dec. 12.
Draymond Green cheers on the Warriors. APAn absence Wednesday at home against New Orleans will mark his 14th straight missed game; he did not play in Sunday’s loss to the Raptors after being reinstated.
This suspension is Green’s second of the season, having previously been banned five games after putting Minnesota center Rudy Gobert in a headlock from behind.

USA TODAY Sports via Reuters Con“During the period of his suspension, which began on Dec. 14 and resulted in him missing 12 games, Green completed steps that demonstrated his commitment to conforming his conduct to standards expected of NBA players,” the NBA said in a statement.
“He has engaged in meetings with a counselor and has met jointly on multiple occasions with representatives of the NBA, the Warriors, and the National Basketball Players Association, both of which will continue throughout the season.”
ESPN reported Green will need roughly one week to be ready to return, which puts him in line to return at some point during an upcoming stretch where the Warriors face the Bulls (Jan. 12), Bucks (Jan. 13) and Grizzlies (Jan. 15) in a four-day window.
