There’s another contender in the Carmelo Anthony buyout sweepstakes.

The Thunder and Hawks are discussing a trade that would send Anthony to Atlanta in exchange for Dennis Schroder and Mike Muscala, according to SiriusXM NBA Radio host Mitch Lawrence.

The Hawks — who acquired Jeremy Lin from the Nets last week and have reportedly been trying to trade Schroder, another point guard — would then buy out Anthony, who is owed $27.9 million next season in the final year of his contract. So, the world would not get an Anthony-and-Lin reunion.

That Anthony will be bought out has been expected for weeks, but the Thunder have yet to find a partner to make it happen. Schroder has three years and $46.5 million left on his contract and getting that off the books is reportedly a priority for the rebuilding Hawks. Schroder has also publicly campaigned for a trade to a contender.

The Thunder reportedly talked with the Nets about acquiring Lin for Anthony and draft picks last week before Brooklyn went in a different direction.

The Rockets — and Anthony’s former coach with the Knicks, Mike D’Antoni —are considered the favorites to sign the forward once he is bought out. The Thunder have given Anthony, who averaged career lows of 16.2 points and 32.1 minutes per game last season, permission to pursue meetings with other teams, ESPN previously reported.
