The Big3 is planning to bring basketball back to television screens by staging a reality-style three-on-three tournament in April.

Big3 co-founders Ice Cube and Jeff Kwatinetz have been talking to multiple TV networks to create a tournament featuring players in an isolated environment who have tested negative for the coronavirus, according to Yahoo! Sports. The event details are still in discussion and have not been finalized.

“As long as we can protect the players, which we will do through proper testing and quarantine, Ice Cube and I feel we can give fans some safe, entertaining brand of basketball to get everyone through this pandemic,” Kwatinetz told the website.

Former NBA players could participate in the project located in an isolated environment, according to the co-founders. Ex-NBA All-Stars such as Amar’e Stoudemire, Joe Johnson and Gilbert Arenas are among the players who have competed in the Big3 since it began in 2017.

Players will be housed in a large home with a basketball court built on the site to keep players quarantined while cameras document their lives for storyline purposes. The Big3 will award cash prizes to winners.

With the NBA season suspended indefinitely, Ice Cube and Kwatinetz believe this tournament will provide a respite to sports fans wanting to see basketball on TV. The Big3 is expected to begin its fourth season on June 20 in Memphis with rule changes implemented and the lowering of the age for qualifying athletes from 27 to 22.
