Bronny James, the 19-year-old son of NBA star LeBron James, waspi cleared Thursday by his doctors to fully return to basketball after suffering cardiac arrest in late July.
Bronny will resume practices next week with USC and return to games shortly, according to a statement released Thursday afternoon from the spokesperson for James’ family.
“Bronny James is now cleared by his doctors for a full return to basketball,” the statement read. “Bronny will have a final evaluation with USC staff this week, resume practice next week and return to games soon after.
“The James family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible medical team, the entire USC community, and especially the countless friends, family, and fans for their love and support. Fight On!”

Bronny sat on the bench during Southern California’s game against Eastern Washington on Wednesday in LA. APThe four-star recruit from Sierra Canyon High School went into cardiac arrest during a basketball practice with the Trojans on July 25.
“What soon means, I don’t know,” coach Andy Enfield said after USC’s win over Eastern Washington on Wednesday night. “It’s not my decision.”
James didn’t participate in pregame warm-ups, and he didn’t join his teammates on the bench until late in the first half of their 106-78 rout. He joked and smiled with the other reserves and stood at the rear of the huddles during timeouts.

APThe Trojans (5-2) play No. 11 Gonzaga in Las Vegas on Saturday. Their next home game is Dec. 10 against Long Beach State before a stretch of four straight road games.
He was in stable condition and was only in the hospital a brief time before being discharged, unlike other patients who often undergo numerous tests over multiple days to find the root of a sudden cardiac arrest episode.
His father has repeatedly expressed his hopes to play in the NBA with Bronny.
