This has been a rough few days for LeBron James and the rest of basketball world in the wake of the death of Kobe Bryant in a Southern California helicopter crash on Sunday.
But on Tuesday, LeBron’s son Bronny was able to give him a reason to smile. LeBron got a front-row view of Bronny — who plays for Sierra Canyon High School — putting down a hellacious alley-opp dunk in a 83-57 victory over Campbell Hall on Tuesday night.
James was able to attend the matchup after Tuesday’s Lakers-Clippers game was postponed until a later date. The Lakers’ next game is Friday at Staples Center against the Carmelo Anthony and the Portland Trail Blazers.
According to People Magazine, game attendees joined each other in silence for 24 seconds — the iconic number Bryant wore with pride throughout his career with the Lakers.
After the game, LeBron had a nice father-son moment with Bronny.
Former Knicks coach David Fizdale also was in attendance and had some playful and encouraging words for the high school freshman.
It has been a grief-filled few days for LeBron. James poured out his emotions in a social media post Monday night. On Sunday, he was seen tearing up and hugging multiple people after the Lakers landed in Los Angeles on Sunday having just learned of the news of Bryant’s death.
“I’m Not Ready but here I go,” James wrote Monday in his first comments since the 41-year-old Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and seven others were killed in Sunday’s crash. “Man I sitting here trying to write something for this post but every time I try I begin crying again just thinking about you, niece Gigi and the friendship/bond/brotherhood we had!”
The Lakers star last spoke to Bryant on Sunday morning in a congratulatory phone call after passing Bryant for third place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with his 33,645th point the night before.
Bryant, a five-time NBA champion and future Hall of Famer, had also paid tribute to James on social media after the game.
