Could Carmelo Anthony’s NBA career be over? It’s not as far-fetched as it may sound.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported several NBA executives have told him they believe the 34-year-old Anthony will not play again in the league after he was released Nov. 15 following 10 games with the Rockets.
The knocks against Anthony have followed him wherever (Denver, the Knicks, Oklahoma City, Houston) he has gone. Teams “loathe” his defense — or lack thereof — Windhorst said, which is not news to Knicks fans. The 10-time All-Star averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds for the Rockets this year after disappointing in his one season with the Thunder last year.
“He is going to be hard-pressed to find a team,” Windhorst said. “There’s going to have to be a series of events that happen, like an injury or a trade that happen.”
So far, none has. So Anthony is biding his time, practicing on his own, sharing his patented workout videos in which he never misses a shot.
The question is whether flaming out of Houston will be Anthony’s final shot.
