Knicks star Carmelo Anthony is scheduled to meet with reticent team president Phil Jackson sometime this week, according to ESPN, after Anthony twice requested a meeting in recent days.
The report presents a slightly different picture of the franchise’s latest mini-crisis than Anthony did Monday, when he made it seem as if he was available to speak to Knicks brass — if they wanted to approach him.
“If they want to come talk to me, I’m around them guys every day,” Anthony said following a loss to the Hawks that dropped the Knicks to 18-24. “I don’t want this to be going back and forth with me and management because it’s really nothing.”
The need for a sitdown stems from a column written by Jackson affiliate Charley Rosen that shredded Anthony. The 32-year-old perennial All-Star, who holds a full no-trade clause, said this weekend if Rosen’s blistering review was indicative of Jackson’s thoughts — Rosen insists he was acting alone — “If that’s the case, if that’s where it’s coming from, that side, I guess it’s a conversation we should have. If they feel my time in New York is over, I guess that’s a conversation we should have.”
ESPN reported Anthony and Jackson last spoke in December for “just a few moments” after the Zen Master criticized Anthony in a CBS Sports interview for being a ball-stopper.
