Did someone say buzzkill?

Cavaliers forward Kevin Love was on fire at the outset of Wednesday night’s game against the Trail Blazers, setting an NBA record for points in a first quarter with 34.

But Cleveland fans weren’t sitting on the edge of their seats, looking for history, for long. The drama-filled first quarter turned into a humdrum second, with Love playing a total of six minutes and putting up a big goose egg. He took one shot and missed. He finished with 40 points in the Cavaliers’ 137-125 win.

Even without their hot hand in the second quarter, the Cavaliers led 81-60 at the half.

Love, who set a team record for points in a period, made 11 of 14 field goal attempts, including 8 of 10 3-pointers. He made his first six shots, including five 3-pointers.
