Curry, Thomas hold pow-wow
By MARC BERMAN
ATLANTA â Isiah Thomas isnât the only one who says goofy things. At the morning shootaround at Philips Arena, Eddy Curry blamed this seasonâs mess on the media, not Thomas.
âThe season couldâve gone very easily the other way if we stayed together a little bit and not let the media tear us apart,ââ Curry said. âI think weâre doing a good job right now of keep fighting.ââ
Curry met with Thomas earlier this week after he blew up after Sundayâs game in Toronto, saying he disagreed with Thomasâ assertion the league is a âSmall Manâs Gameââ now. Curry is averaging just 19 minutes the last 13 contests and went scoreless in the win over Charlotte Wednesday. Clearly, Thomas told him to pipe down.
âRight now is not the time for me to stir up things,ââ Curry said. âIâm going to play this out, play as hard as I can. In the summer, if I have any issues, Iâll address it with him. Right now is not the time.ââ
âIt was a confidential conversation. We got a lot out of it. We both know going forward what to expect from each other.ââ
Thomas was in a chipper mood this morning despite the stuff swirling about his job status for next season. He said he expects to be back. Thatâs what the contract says. But donât buy speculation Dolan may bring in another president and keep Thomas as coach. Not happening. The reverse â Isiah staying on as president and hiring a new coach â would be more likely.

Thomas said at the morning shootaround Monday he won’t sign a point guard whose waived unless the team was closer to the playoff race. So Tyronn Lue is not a consideration. The Knicks would have to buy out a player since they don’t have a roster spot anyway…The Knicks will face Mike Bibby tonight for the first time since he became a Hawk before the trade deadline. That was a guy the Knicks tried to get from Sacramento – the type of point guard that Isiah thinks could make it all work. “He’s doing a good job helping Atlanta right now,” Thomas said.
