Eddy Curry is headed to Detroit next month, but not to the Pistons.

The Knicks center is going to Motown to lose weight and work out with a personal trainer/nutritionist, according to Donnie Walsh.

Curry’s agent, Leon Rose, came up with the idea for Curry, who played in just three games. The theory is Curry’s weight is directly related to his knee troubles.

Mike D’Antoni, in his exit meeting with Curry yesterday, told the overweight but talented center how important he still was to the franchise and pleaded with him to come back to training camp in shape. Whether he plays in the summer league in Las Vegas is up to Curry.

D’Antoni said he believes Curry is serious this time, but added, “I’m not going to bet my mortgage on it.”
