David Stern “remains in serious condition” five days after suffering a brain hemorrhage, the NBA said in a statement Tuesday.
The former NBA commissioner underwent emergency surgery last Thursday in New York after collapsing at a restaurant that afternoon.
“He is receiving great care and surrounded by his loved ones,” the league’s statement said. “The Stern family and everyone at the NBA appreciate the incredible outpouring of support. Our thoughts and prayers remain with David and his family.”
The 77-year-old Stern served as commissioner for 30 years before stepping down in 2014 and being replaced by Adam Silver. The Hall of Famer was born in New York and raised in Teaneck, N.J.
