Police in Mobile, Alabama have issued an arrest warrant for DeMarcus Cousins on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge, USA Today Sports reported Thursday.
The Lakers center allegedly threatened to put a “bullet” in his ex-girlfriend Christy West’s head after she would not allow him to take their 7-year-old son to his wedding over the weekend, according to audio obtained by TMZ.
There is also a third-degree harassing communications charge listed against Cousins on the Mobile municipal court’s website.
Cousins’ ex-girlfriend claimed he had previously choked her and she filed for a restraining order to protect her and her son, according to TMZ. She also alleged that Cousins threatened to end her life “even if he didn’t have to get his hands dirty doing it,” TMZ reported, citing court documents.
“No arrest has been made yet. Hopefully, he will turn himself in on the active misdemeanor arrest warrant,” a police spokesperson told the gossip site.
The Lakers and NBA have said they are looking into the case regarding Cousins, who tore his ACL earlier this month and is likely out for the season.
“We are aware of the allegation involving DeMarcus Cousins and, of course, take this claim seriously,” the Lakers said in a statement Tuesday. “We are in the process of gathering information and will reserve further comment at this time.”
