Watch your back, Donnie!
Team president Donnie Walsh admitted he did not work on Isiah Thomas’ contract to be a part-time paid consultant. But Walsh, who has had health issues this summer, insisted he’s safe in his position and repeated he is not hiring a GM.
“I’m not leaving the job,” Walsh told The Post. “I’m 98 percent and trying to get back to 100 percent.”
Walsh, 69, had neck surgery that put him in a wheelchair before late June’s NBA Draft. Walsh said he uses the wheelchair infrequently now and gets around with a walker. He feels he’ll be 100 percent by training camp in late September. “I haven’t been limited at all by the operation,” Walsh said.
As far as hiring a GM, Walsh said, “I’m the GM now. I’ve got that job. So I’m not hiring in that role.”
➤ Walsh also confirmed the Knicks had agreed to terms with Spurs free-agent combo guard Roger Mason Jr., who will sign a contract today.
“I think he’ll help us with shooting, which we needed, and can play the two-guard defensively,” Walsh said.
