D’Angelo Russell apparently would have gone to great lengths to get his max contract.

“D’Angelo wanted to get the max,” said former Nets teammate Jared Dudley in an interview with The Athletic. “So I’m not surprised. He would’ve gone to, you know, Saudi Arabia, if he could have gotten the max there.”

Russell ended up getting the four-year, $117 million deal he wanted after the Nets dealt him in a sign-and-trade to the Warriors this month.

The 23-year-old All-Star point guard became expendable after the Nets signed Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Russell’s future with the Warriors remains unclear given the team’s backcourt logjam, though Golden State GM Bob Myers told reporters he “didn’t sign him with the intention of just trading him.”

Dudley, who was also a free agent, signed a one-year, $2.6 million contract with the Lakers.
