Suns forward Jae Crowder recently revealed he has been the target of an increasing number of death threats and that the source of the hate behind them remains a mystery.

The NBA veteran told the Arizona Republic he gets death threats “all the time,” but he had gotten an “overwhelming number” in recent days, leading to him to address the situation publicly on his Instagram account.

“I don’t know where this is coming from,” Crowder told the Arizona Republic on Tuesday. “I don’t know who’s behind it. I don’t know what fan base is behind it. I don’t know anything about it. I’m just trying to take precautions and what I need to do to protect myself and my family. That’s what I’m doing.”

Crowder initially brought up the death threats earlier this week in a series of Instagram posts.

“IT’S WILD TO ME THE AMOUNT OF DEATH THREATS I GET ON THE REGULAR..HOW CAN PPL SEND ME MESSAGES/MAIL WANTIN TO KILL ME, BUT NEVER MET ME.!” Crowder wrote.

“I GOTTA UP MY SECURITY SINCE I DONT EVEN KNOW WHERE THIS HATE COMING FROM & BEFORE I LET MY GUARD DOWN & LET ONE OF YOU TAKE ME AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER.!”

The 30-year-old Crowder clarified to the paper that the messages he had received included “nothing like harmful to my daughter,” who is 6.

“I get death threats all the time and just felt like the other day woke up and it was just like an overwhelming number of death threats in my messages and mails,” Crowder told the newspaper. “I was frustrated with that and I just took it to the Internet. It’s obviously gained attention.”

Crowder, who has played for the Mavericks, Celtics, Cavaliers, Jazz, Grizzlies and Heat, signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Suns last offseason. He missed the start of training camp to tend to a personal issue, but has since returned to the team and had started 13 of 16 games while averaging 10.7 points and 4.8 rebounds.
