It looks like another Kenyon Martin could be headed to the NBA, despite not taking the traditional college path.

Kenyon Martin Jr. — the son of former Nets great Kenyon Martin — has declared for the 2020 NBA Draft in an Instagram post on Tuesday. His father also confirmed the news to ESPN.

Martin Jr., a 6-foot-7 wing, passed up a chance to play for the Vanderbilt Commodores, choosing to attend post-graduate school instead. He thanks his supporters and had a message in his announcement to those who disagreed with that decision.

“I appreciate everyone who has supported me and my decisions is up to this point,” he wrote. “There was a lot of hate and doubt about my journey but I feel I’ve done what was best for me and now is the time to take the next step which is to Declare for the 2020 NBA Draft.

“It has been a lifelong dream of mine and I will continue to work day by day to prove to myself and everyone that this is where I belong.”

Martin Jr. has a lot of work to do if he wants to have a career like his father. Martin, who played in the NBA for 15 seasons, helped lead the then-New Jersey Nets to two NBA Finals appearances. He averaged 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game during his long career.
