The Olympics won’t be deprived of both Splash Brothers.

One day after Stephen Curry withdrew his name from consideration for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team due to recent injuries, his Warriors teammate, Klay Thompson, said he still wants to represent his country in Brazil.

“Just thinking about the Olympics gives me butterflies,” Thompson said. “That’s a dream I always had as a kid. When [the Finals are] over, I’ll get a couple weeks [rest] and that’s all I need. The best thing about Team USA is no one’s logging heavy minutes. I had the experience before, we only played 15, 20 [minutes] a game.

“It would be an honor to play for Team USA and I’d love to go to Brazil.”

Curry said the Zika virus had no bearing on his decision, and while Thompson admitted he was a “little bit” concerned, he said he wouldn’t let it influence his plans.

“I’m not gonna lie to you, mosquitoes love me, I grew up in Oregon [and] I felt like I was always getting bit,” Thompson said. “It’s no joking matter. It’s a little concerning, but at the same time you just got to take the precautionary steps to avoid it. It’s not gonna deter me from going.”

Warriors coach Steve Kerr said he wasn’t consulted about Curry’s decision to skip the Games, but believes it was the right move for his superstar’s career.

“As his coach, I’m pleased. He needs rest,” Kerr said. “Two straight years going to the Finals, he’s had injuries. … I think rest will serve him really well. … For Steph, I think he weighed all the dynamics and realized that a summer of rest would be the best thing for him long-term and I think that’s a wise choice.”

James and Kyrie Irving said they hadn’t yet decided if they would play in the Olympics.
