LAS VEGAS – Here in Sin City, the Knicks have gathered for the Las Vegas summer league. They had their meetings tonight at the Wynn Hotel – swankiest hotel on the strip. No surprise the Knicks stay there and some teams stay at New York New York. When you can afford to pay $3 million for the 29th pick?
The Vegas sports books have the Knicks at 125-1 to win the title. If you came to Vegas to bet heavy on the Celtics to win the championship after they got Rasheed Wallace, stay clear of the Flamingo, Bally’s, Harrah’s or Paris. They don’t accept wagers on the Celtics because their CEO is Gary Loveman, a minority owner of the Celtics.
The Knicks may be content not to add a point guard this summer as long as Toney Douglas shows something out here that he can run the point. Aside from Jordan Hill, other players to watch are Morris Almond and Alex Acker. Almond is nearly assured a spot for training camp and could earn a guaranteed contract. Acker has a chance at a camp invite too.
The Knicks have two-a-days beginning Saturday. They open up Tuesday vs. Memphis and Hasheem Thabeet. Several teams began play today at UNLV.
