This was rough, even for the Knicks.

The Knicks haven’t won at Madison Square Garden since December 1 and are a loss away from tying the 1993-94 Mavericks for the longest home losing streak in NBA history at 19. They sure didn’t help their cause early in the first quarter against the Spurs at MSG by scoring in their own basket on Sunday night.

San Antonio’s LaMarcus Aldridge took a jumper from just inside the 3-point line on the right side. Kevin Knox and Dennis Smith Jr., with a Spurs player nowhere near them, both went to rebound the shot that hit off the rim and up off the backboard. Instead of the coming away with it, they tipped the ball into the hoop to give the Spurs two points.

Aldridge was credited with the basket that cut the Spurs deficit to 5-4 with 10:57 remaining in the first quarter and left coach Knicks David Fizdale laughing on the bench.
