The Knicks not only introduced a new head coach Tuesday, they introduced their power structure.
At a ceremony at the Garden, the Knicks formally welcomed David Fizdale as their new coach, who emphasized he is not in this alone.
Being flanked by president Steve Mills and GM Scott Perry, Fizdale praised his new bosses and said they were all in this together.
“Great human being, great husbands, great leaders,” Fizdale said. “I’m just really excited to be collaborating with these guys. These guys really have a pointed vision that connected to me. The history of the Knicks, I don’t take that lightly.”
He said they would “work really hard to build this culture, to rebuild this culture back. … Eventually hopefully we’ll be holding that trophy, guys.”
With Trey Burke, Kyle O’Quinn, Lance Thomas and Emmanuel Mudiay in attendance, Fizdale gave last season’s point-guard addition a vote of confidence.
“Mudiay, we going to get to work, kid,” Fizdale said.
Who wasn’t there was Kristaps Porzingis, who’s in Latvia. But his specter loomed.
“He’s the future of the NBA,” Fizdale said.
