Knicks fans, this is just the start of wild, intense playoff rollercoaster ride

By Mike Vaccaro

Be at the ready. Be prepared. Make sure you hydrate before these games, no matter how many of them are to come in the weeks and months ahead. Make sure you maybe have a shot glass or two of Maalox at the ready. The Knicks won the game 111-104, but you needed to stare at the score at the end to make sure it was real, right?

This is what it’s going to be like. This is how it’s going to go. You’ll live. You’ll die. You’ll toss throw pillows at the television. You’ll come close to hitting your head on the basement ceiling, if it’s low enough. The Knicks were dead. Then they were rolling. Then they were dead again.

Then: here they came, one last time. Joel Embiid had done a wonderful Willis Reed imitation across the second half, mostly serving as a decoy and doing it well enough to drag his 76ers back from the brink. It was 91-90, Knicks, and the 19,812 inside Madison Square Garden who’d filled the old gym with a vintage roar for two hours solid had quieted.

Josh Hart’s clutch Knicks 3-pointer elicits unbelievable call from Mike Breen

By Andrew Battifarano

Josh Hart’s 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter in the Knicks’ Game 1 win on Saturday night sent Madison Square Garden into a frenzy.

It also brought out a fantastic call from play-by-play announcer Mike Breen.

The Knicks led the 76ers by four points with just over a minute to go and had the ball with the shot clock expiring when Miles McBride dished a pass off to Hart.

Hart pump-faked, and McBride then set up a screen to get Joel Embiid off the ball.

And then Hart made some magic happen, taking an off-balance deep 3-pointer, knocking down a perfect shot from beyond the arc to put the Knicks up by seven before they rolled to a Game 1 victory.

Breen, who was working the game for ESPN, didn’t use his signature “bang,” though he still rolled out a terrific call of the play.

Josh Hart's Big Day from Deep

By Zach Braziller

Josh Hart shot 31 percent from 3-point range this year. He didn't hit more than three triples in a single game. In five of his last nine regular season games, he didn't hit one. But in Game 1, Hart was not timid. He made 4-of-8 from distance, including three in the final quarter that helped put the 76ers away.

After the win, Hart said a major focus this week was working on his jumper, knowing the 76ers would play off of him. One game, also, won't change the plan. He'll have to keep making shots to prove Philadelphia is making a mistake.

Here is Hart talking about his 3-point shooting:

Knicks fans are enjoying Game 1 win

By Zach Braziller

Knicks fans know how to have a good time. It's obvious by how loud the Garden gets for regular season games, and MSG was electric for Saturday's win over the 76ers. But the party didn't stop after the 111-104 victory that began the postseason. Here's a look at the scene on 7th Avenue afterwards:

Knicks use all-around effort to beat 76ers in electrifying Game 1 victory to rock raucous MSG

By Stefan Bondy

The Knicks didn’t need much from Jalen Brunson because they had Miles McBride, Mitchell Robinson and Josh Hart.

Overcoming a Game 1 dud from their star point guard, the Knicks rode the unlikely heroes to topple the Sixers, 111-104, in front of a jacked up crowd Saturday at MSG.

The Knicks outscored the Sixers in the final 10 minutes by seven points, getting three timely treys from Hart, who avenged a disappointing opening three quarters with clutch moments and a final 22-point, 13-rebound stat line.

Joel Embiid health update after Game 1

By Zach Braziller

76ers coach Nick Nurse said Joel Embiid was looked at, at halftime after a hard fall late in the second quarter and was deemed good to go. Embiid wound up scoring 29 points on 8-of-22 shooting in the Knicks' 111-104 victory.

Nurse caled Embiid a "warrior," who is doing everything he can to stay on the floor. Embiid missed 29 games due to a left knee injury and has said he's not 100 percent. It will be interesting to see how long Embiid holds up as this series goes on. He's already had one injury scare in just one game.

Knicks beat the 76ers in Game 1

By Zach Braziller

The Knicks have taken a 1-0 series lead with a 111-104 victory over the 76ers. Josh Hart with a playoff career-high of 22 points and 13 rebounds. Jalen Brunson with 22 points on 8-of-26 shooting, seven assists and five turnovers. Asked the difference, Brunson said: "Deuce McBride." McBride scored 21 along with four assists. Knicks outscored the 76ers by a whopping 37 points in his 28 minutes.

Thought Mitchell Robinson was a huge difference-maker, producing eight points, 12 rebounds and four blocks off the bench. Joel Embiid had 29 despite an injury scare late in the first half. Big stat: Knicks won the battle on the glass, 55-33. It was also 42-7 in bench points.

My big takeaway: Knicks won what will likely be Brunson's worst game of the series. A lot to feel good about.

Josh Hart 3's helping Knicks separate from 76ers

By Zach Braziller

Three times, Josh Hart has hit huge 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to give the Knicks breathing room. His most recent one pushed the lead to seven with a minute left. That was after his triple extended the lead to six with 1:55 to go.

Hart has had a typical well-rounded game. with 20 points and 12 rebounds. This is also the first game all year Hart has hit four 3-pointers. They've needed it with Jalen Brunson having an off game.

Game 1 up for grabs in final minutes

It's been a strange game. The 76ers led by 13 early. The Knicks went up 14 in the third quarter. Jalen Brunson has struggled. Joel Embiid had an injury scare. But with 4:02 left, it's anybody's game, the Knicks clinging to a four-point lead.

It may come down to merely taking care of the ball, which the Knicks have struggled with this quarter. Mitchell Robinson has made a major impact, notching 11 rebounds and four blocks. We'll see if Tom Thibodeau's team can hold on. Huge four minutes on tap.

Brunson struggling in Game 1

By Zach Braziller

It has not been a game Jalen Brunson will remember fondly. He is 7-of-24 from the field with three turnovers and five assists. The Knicks have been outscored by five points in his 35 minutes. He has been forcing shots the last few possessions.

The Knicks still hold a two-point lead with 8:21 left. Miles McBride has come up big, giving them the lead with a lefty layup. He has scored 18 points off the bench. Still, it's hard to see the Knicks prevailing here if Brunson doesn't find it somewhat.

76ers responding in third quarter

By Zach Braziller

Down 14 early in the period, the 76ers got even on a Joel Embiid 3-pointer, capping an 18-4 run. Kyle Lowry had 12 points in the quarter, yet another former Villanova star playing well. Surprisingly it took Tom Thibodeau so long to go to Mitchell Robinson, waiting until late in the third quarter. The 76ers have now gone ahead by five, outscoring the Knicks 32-15 in the stanza.

Tyrese Maxey has been thriving as well. The former Kentucky star is up to 20 points, including this move:

Tyrese Maxey remains one of the greatest finishers around the rim in the entire NBA. Acrobatic, athletic, soft touch, speed, literally everything that you could ever want & more. Unbelievable.pic.twitter.com/ZPSbIVzTHy
