The Knicks vs. 76ers playoff series appears to be getting chippier by the game.

We’ll see if the physicality and trash-talking ramps up even more Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia, where the Knicks will attempt to take a 3-1 series lead after dropping Game 3 on Thursday.

Joel Embiid exploded for 50 points while also getting called for a controversial foul, dangerously grabbing Mitchell Robinson’s lower leg but avoiding an ejection.

Donte DiVincenzo called it a “dirty” play, but the 76ers’ Kelly Oubre disagreed and essentially told the Knicks not to “cry” about it.

Can the Knicks get back on track and have a chance to win the series at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday?

Or will Philly take care of business at home again to level the series?

Jalen Brunson earns place in Knicks lore with legendary performance

By Mike Vaccaro

PHILADELPHIA — By the end, the angry basketball constituents of this city had given up trying to drown out the chants. Most of them were halfway to the Ben Franklin Bridge, anyway, having fled when Kyle Lowry, a shrewd player — decided to be too clever by half — purposely missing a free throw without letting his teammates know his intentions.

Wells Fargo crowd 'pisses' Joel Embiid off

By Bridget Reilly

Joel Embiid was ticked off by the crowd at Wells Fargo, which consisted of a large amount of Knicks fans on Sunday for the Knicks' 97-92 Game 4 victory.

"Disappointing. I love our fans, think it's unfortunate," he said after the game. "I'm not calling them out, but it is disappointing. Obviously, you got a lot of Knicks fans. They're down the road and never seen it and I've been here for 10 years. it kind of pisses me off.

"Especially because Philly is considered a sports town so they've always shown up and I don't think that should happen. It's not okay."

Given it’s not a big travel affair, it was expected for a good amount of opposing fans to visit both The Garden and Wells Fargo throughout the series.

However, the crowd was overwhelming in the Knicks’ Game 4 victory, as “Go New York Go New York Go” and “MVP” chants for Jalen Brunson rang throughout the stands.

Just got done interviewing Sixers fans, and in all my years working here, I haven’t seen a fan base take over as much as Knicks fans here.

The former MVP went on to say that he had yet to witness a crowd like this in Philadelphia.

Isaiah Hartenstein said Knicks fans are "probably the closest you'll ever get to European fans."

"This Philadelphia fanbase is very relentless, very passionate, I'm an Eagles fan I would know..."Jalen Brunson said. "Seeing the Knicks here, hearing the Knicks here was pretty cool. It's awesome."

Emiid had 27 points, shooting 7-of-19 from the field, along with 10 rebounds and six assists in their 97-92 loss.

Jalen Brunson comments on his Game 4 locker room stint

By Bridget Reilly

After coming up with a big play to end the third quarter, Jalen Brunson was limping off the court, which instantly put worries into Knicks fans' minds.

Brunson explained that at some point during the play he banged knees with Kyle Lowry, causing him to limp.

"I'm all good," he said after the game to put any remaining nerves at ease.

Brunson eventually entered the fourth quarter with under 10 minutes remaining in the game and went on to tally a total of 47 points for a new franchise playoff record,

"I'll look back when I retire. Seriously, it's great right now, helped us get a win," Brunson said of his franchise record. "But, it's not gonna do anything for us going forward."

"We needed it..." Josh Hart added. "This starting small forward, power forward, whatever the hell I am, ain't make a shot, I was like Shaq at the free throw line, so we needed it. He played great offensively. Aggressive. That's what we needed and now we got to continue to build off that in Game 5 and keep moving forward."

Hart finished with four points, shooting 0-7 from the field and 4-for-8 from the free throw line, but he racked up 17 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.

Tyrese Maxey admits to 76ers' fourth quarter faults

By Bridget Reilly

Towards the end of the fourth quarter, the 76ers were scoreless for almost five minutes and needed some momentum to turn Game 4 in their favor.

They had a chance with Kyle Lowry at the line with seven seconds remaining and the Knicks ahead 95-91. The veteran guard made the first free throw but failed to communicate that he was going to purposely miss the second for a chance to get within one point.

“We just couldn't get in a rhythm offensively as far as what we wanted to run a couple times. That's on me and K-Low to get us organized and get us a good shot," Tyrese Maxey admitted after the game.

The 76ers eventually lost 97-92 to put themselves a 3-1 series hole going into Game 5 on Tuesday.

Tom Thibodeau gives Mitchell Robinson update after Game 4 absence

By Bridget Reilly

Mitchell Robinson "wasn't quite there" to play in the Knicks eventual Game 4 win over the 76ers, Tom Thibodeau said after the game.

The center was listed as questionable on the team's injury report ahead of the game and Thibodeau said he would be a game-time decision after going through pregame warmups.

After his assessment, he was ruled out after re-injuring his left ankle in Game 3.

Robinson was seen leaving Game 3 wearing a walking boot and he missed Saturday's practice ahead of Game 4 as well.

Jalen Brunson’s record-breaking 47-point effort carries Knicks to wild Game 4 win to put 76ers on the brink

By Stefan Bondy

PHILADELPHIA — Jalen Brunson strapped on his cape and vanquished the Sixers.

The Knicks point guard dropped 47 points — setting the franchise playoff record — to carry New York to a 97-92 victory Sunday afternoon and a 3-1 series advantage.

By the end of the game, the crowd, split throughout, was decidedly in New York’s corner with Brunson “MVP” chants reverberating inside Wells Fargo Center.

He toppled the previous Knicks playoff record set by Bernard King (twice) in 1984.

76ers miscommunication cost them Game 4

By Bridget Reilly

Kyle Lowry horribly missed a three-point shot with 20 seconds remaining, but followed his shot to get himself to the line for two shots.

Lowry swished the first but failed to communicate with his teammates that he was going to miss the second on purpose to get a two-point shot or better for a chance to at least get within one point.

That play let the game slip away from the 76ers, who are now in a 3-1 series hole after the 97-92 loss.
