Saquon Barkley fumes with ‘traitor’ rant after being booed by Knicks fans

By Matt Ehalt

Saquon Barkley got an early preview of the reaction headed his way when the new Eagles running back faces his former team this upcoming season.

After sitting courtside at Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia alongside new teammate — and freshly extended receiver — A.J. Brown for the Knicks’ Game 6 win over the 76ers, the former No. 2 pick noted the negative reaction he received seemingly from his jilted former fan base.

Series clincher perfect illustration of what makes these Knicks tick

By Mike Vaccaro

PHILADELPHIA — There would be one last prayer, one last desperate heave, and the way things had gone this night — the way they’d gone the last two games — when Buddy Hield shotputted the basketball at the final buzzer you half-expected it drop, maybe with a little help from the backboard. Why not?

This time, there was no miracle. This time there was no heartbreak. The ball bounded harmlessly away, and the throaty Knicks contingent inside Wells Fargo Center — beginning with the Knicks themselves — let out a primal, guttural roar. It was over. It was done. Knicks 118, 76ers 115.

New York four games, Philly two.

Knicks’ Josh Hart comes up clutch with huge bucket to help close out 76ers

By Peter Botte

PHILADELPHIA — Josh Hart was expecting the 76ers to dare him to shoot, even with the success he had from long distance earlier in the series.

Hart knocked down likely the biggest 3-pointer of his career, a tiebreaking shot with 25.1 seconds remaining in the Knicks’ 118-115, series-sealing win Thursday night over the 76ers.

“Josh was Josh,” coach Tom Thibodeau said after the game. “He’s a player. He’s put a lot of time into his shooting. I always feel like, I don’t know what it is about him. There’s so many intangibles that he has, that makes your team good.

“I always have the belief that when it’s a big shot, it’s going in. He has that ability. When you need an offensive rebound, he’s gonna go through three, four, five people and go get it. It’s a loose ball, he’s gonna make something happen. He’s just a fierce, fierce competitor.”

Donte DiVincenzo busts out of 3-point shooting slump in big way in Knicks’ series clincher

By Peter Botte

PHILADELPHIA — Donte DiVincenzo understood and accepted the assignment at both ends of the floor, and he helped propel the Knicks to a series-sealing victory.

DiVincenzo had slumped following his game-winning shot in Game 2, but he nailed five 3-pointers and two late free throws, while also spearheading the shutdown against All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey in Thursday’s Game 6 win over the Sixers.

DiVincenzo had missed 14 of 17 attempts in the previous three games after his Game 2 heroics, but he buried two treys in Thursday’s first quarter and finished the game with 23 points.

“Honestly, it had nothing to do with shooting. I got myself going early in the game guarding Maxey,” DiVincenzo said afterward. “We made that adjustment and I was locked in ready to go. Having a tough matchup like that, you have to be locked in from the very beginning.

By Brian Lewis

PHILADELPHIA – Knicks fans didn’t take over Wells Fargo Center. But they took away the win.

No, it wasn’t anywhere near as glaring as Games 3 and 4, where they overran Wells Fargo Center. The sight of all that orange and blue, and the sounds of all those loud New Yorkers had so embarrassed Philadelphia that star Joel Embiid understandably chastised his own fanbase.

“Disappointed. I love our fans. I think it’s unfortunate — and I’m not calling them out — but it is disappointing,” Embiid had said.
