Rasheed Wallace underwent surgery today to repair the Jones fracture in his left foot at the Hospital of Special Surgery. The timetable remains at eight weeks, which could put him in line to return in the second round of the playoffs.
According to a source, Wallace debated for several days whether to have surgery or let it heal on its own. His decision to have surgery is an indication he has hopes of playing again in the postseason.
Wallace has not played since mid-December when he suffered a stress reaction in his left foot, a precursor to a stress fracture. The Knicks said that new X-rays showed the stress reaction had turned into a Jones fracture.
The Knicks signed Kenyon Martin last Thursday realizing Wallace’s return was iffy at best.
