Knicks win 108-94 to take 3-0 lead over Sixers in second round

By Ethan Sears

The Knicks are one win away from getting the brooms out.

After the Sixers took an early lead, the Knicks recovered in the second quarter and never relinquished control. They beat the Sixers 108-94 on Friday night to win their sixth game in a row this postseason and take a 3-0 lead in the series that is all but decisive. No team in NBA history has ever come back down 3-0.

This was an excellent all-around effort. Jalen Brunson led with 33 points and dominated the game's second half. Mikal Bridges had 23 and Landry Shamet had 15 points off the bench. Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart both finished with double-digit rebounds, while Jordan Clarkson and Mitchell Robinson both put in strong performances off the bench, finishing plus-11 and plus-16, respectively.

Defensively, the Knicks were suffocating. Kelly Oubre was the only Sixer with over 20 points as Paul George cooled off after a hot start to finish with 15. Joel Embiid, playing through injury, had 18 points on 7-of-17 shooting along with six rebounds. It took until deep in the second half for Quentin Grimes to score the Sixers' first points off the bench, and Philadelphia was beaten all night on the glass.

By Ethan Sears

The Knicks are on an 11-2 run since calling timeout and lead 99-86, their largest margin all night. A red-hot Jalen Brunson is up to 29 points, and the Sixers don't seem to have an answer. New York is just under six minutes away from taking a 3-0 lead in the series.

Old friend Quentin Grimes hit a long three that made it 88-84 and Mike Brown calls time. There's 8:53 to go in the game.

End of 3: Knicks lead 85-76

By Ethan Sears

Landry Shamet's triple gave the Knicks an 85-76 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Shamet has been terrific tonight, with 12 points ff the bench. Jalen Brunson has picked up his game and now leads the Knicks with 24 points, with Mikal Bridges behind him with 17. Josh Hart, meanwhile, has a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

All five of the Sixers' starters are in double digits, but they still don't have a single bench point, and are shooting just 29 percent from 3 as a team.

Knicks holding six-point lead late in third quarter

The Knicks lead 76-70 with 4:16 to go in the third quarter, and just won a challenge to overturn an offensive foul on Jalen Brunson. Kelly Oubre tried to taunt Brunson, but it didn't take too long to start looking bad.

Karl-Anthony Towns picks up fourth foul midway through third

By Ethan Sears

Karl-Anthony Towns has been in foul trouble all night and just picked up his fourth with 6:27 to go in the third. Outside of that, though, things are still going fine for the Knicks. They lead 70-63 and have held the Sixers at arm's length so far in the third quarter.

Halftime: Knicks lead Sixers 60-52

By Ethan Sears

The Knicks fell down early, but retook the lead and haven't looked back yet. They lead the Sixers 60-52 at the half behind 15 points from both Mikal Bridges and Jalen Brunson.

It's been mainly about the boards and the bench for the Knicks. They've outrebounded Philly 9-5 on the offensive glass and 16-11 on the defensive glass. Their bench has outscored the Sixers' 16-0, with Landry Shamet's nine points on 4-of-5 shooting the standout performance.

Outside of Paul George and Kelly Oubre, who have 15 points apiece, the Sixers have yet to get going. Joel Embiid has only been effective for short spurts, Tyrese Maxey has eight points and the Sixers lost steam as the second quarter went on.

Knicks up 12 late in second quarter

By Ethan Sears

The Knicks have taken control of this game.

They're dominating the glass -- 22 to 12 -- their bench is contributing at a high level and they are playing suffocating defense. They've held the Sixers to just 11 points in the second quarter so far, and 43 percent shooting from the field.

Mikal Bridges has it rolling too. He's got 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including 2-of-3 from 3.
