Knicks’ Game 2 report card: Doomed by a quiet second half

By Zach Braziller

Jalen Brunson

Shot poorly again and struggled down the stretch, missing a pull-up jumper and getting stripped in the final minute. On top of that, the Hawks targeted Brunson on switches, with CJ McCollum going off for 32 points. It was not a good night or finish despite 29 points. Brunson shot 10-for-26.

Gag City: Knicks’ season-altering choke ends chance of easy series with Hawks

By Mike Vaccaro

Remember Gag City?

Welcome back to Gag City.

Whatever else has befallen the Knicks this year, they have always owned the fourth quarter. This time, with a hammerlock on the series waiting on the other side of the fourth quarter, the Knicks gagged in a way they haven’t gagged all year. Call this 107-106 loss what it is.

A season-altering choke.

Some fighting words from Josh Hart

By Jake Nisse

There's little that could make Knick fans feel better about that collapse, but Hart seems to grasp the gravity of the moment heading into Game 3.

He flirted with a triple double on Monday as he had 15 points, 13 rebounds and six assists.

"We've been in this situation before. Everyone is frustrated with this loss. We're gonna go into Game 3 with a great attention to detail and a great focus for a full 48. We've got high-character guys that'll respond well"

Knicks fans undeterred...

By Jake Nisse

Despite the crushing loss, these Knicks fans were in good spirits afterwards as they chanted "Knicks in 5" outside MSG.

They'll certainly need to slow down McCollum to make that scenario happen, but the Knicks will still be favored to take this series over an Atlanta team they won seven more games than this regular season.

Bridges "liked" his look

By Jake Nisse

Bridges also has no qualms about his final attempt.

"Just missed it. Nothing wrong with it, just gotta make it next time," he told reporters.

The forward is usually comfortable in the mid-range but will be frustrated that his potential game-winner didn't fall.

Brown on Bridges' final look: "I thought it was a good shot"

By Jake Nisse

Brown seemingly isn't mad at the look that Bridges missed at the buzzer, saying: "I don't think the shot was under a ton of duress."

He also added that he might have taken a timeout to draw up a play if the Knicks had one.

CJ's not satisfied

By Jake Nisse

McCollum carried the Hawks to an improbable win on Monday, but his two missed free throws with around 5 seconds left gave the Knicks a chance to snatch the game back.

"I gotta make my f---ing free throws, man", he told NBC after the game.

He still shot 5-of-7 from the stripe overall and will be happy to go into Game 3 tied.

A meltdown for the Knicks

By Jake Nisse

Despite 29 points and 10 dimes for Brunson, this will go down as an infamous collapse for the Knicks, who led for virtually the entire game and never really seemed at threat to lose until the final minutes of the game.

The Hawks - despite trailing by as many as 14 - didn't waver, however, and didn't trail after McCollum's go-ahead shot with 33.5 seconds left.

He finished with 32 points and what will probably go down as one of the most memorable moments of his career.

The final sequence

By Jake Nisse

McCollum and the Hawks will count themselves as fortunate after his pair of missed free throws, but they survive after Bridges' missed jumper in the final moments.

He had a bit of time to potentially attack the rim but opted for the jumper with Johnson draped over him.

Bridges misses at the buzzer... Hawks complete the comeback

By Jake Nisse

McCollum shockingly missed two free throws after being put on the line with 5.6 seconds left, but the Hawks survive after Bridges settles for a midrange jumper and misses at the horn.

The Hawks snatch a 107-106 win, and a series that looked comfortably in the Knicks favor an hour ago now has a much, much tighter feel.

Brunson says hold on...

By Jake Nisse

Brunson keeps the game alive for New York and cuts the Atlanta lead to one with just over seven seconds left.

He also made a triple moments ago during McCollum and Co.'s barnstorming run into the lead.

Atlanta seconds away from a shock

By Jake Nisse

Two more makes from McCollum - including a fadeaway jumper - and an emphatic dunk from Johnson following a steal has Atlanta up four.

This has been a famous night for the never All-Star and the Hawks are just 10.2 seconds away from what would be a ridiculous heist.
