Knicks coach Mike Brown fumes at refs over free-throw disparity after Game 3 loss to Spurs

By Justin Tasch

Knicks head coach Mike Brown called out the referees over the drastic second-half free-throw disparity after their Game 3 NBA Finals loss Monday night at Madison Square Garden.

The Spurs cut the Knicks’ series lead to 2-1 with a 115-111 victory after attempting 24 free throws in the second half, while the Knicks had only eight free throws in the final two quarters.

“I never thought I’d be in the NBA finals and see a team get 24 free-throw attempts in the second half to another team’s eight,” Brown said after the game. “I don’t think I complain much about officials or the fairness when it comes to free-throw attempts. San Antonio is a great team — they’re a great team.

KAT's message to the fans

By Jake Nisse

The Spurs were able to silence the MSG crowd at times with their steady performance, but KAT made it clear that he was impressed with the raucous atmosphere - despite the loss.

"Of course our fans brought it. They always do. Of course they lived up to the expectations and exceeded them. We didn't do our job to give them something to cheer for after the game."

Knicks’ NBA Finals Game 3 report card: Jalen Brunson’s inefficient series finally hurts

By Stefan Bondy

Jalen Brunson

Not a good shooting night overall (11-for-25) and too many turnovers (five). Got going in the fourth quarter, but it was too late with little help from his teammates. Brunson’s Finals have been inefficient.

Grade: C+

Not yet at least...

By Jake Nisse

Wemby says he's not yet the level of villain that Knicks heel Trae Young is.

We'll see if that still rings true by the end of this series. There's a lot of basketball left to be played.

“I guess. I’m nowhere near Trae Young level though.”

Good company

NBA Finals games with at least 32 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals

• Victor Wembanyama (tonight)
• Kevin Durant (2017)
• LeBron James (2016, twice)
• Tim Duncan (2003)

Coach Brown's not happy

By Jake Nisse

The Knicks shot far fewer free throw attempts than the Spurs tonight - a fact which Brown pointed out after tonight's loss.

San Antonio finished the game with 32 attempts to the Knicks' 22, but the deficit was far wider in the second half.

Mike Brown is not happy with the officiating after Game 3:

The end of a streak

By Jake Nisse

The Spurs' win also ended the Knicks' outrageous 13-game playoff winning streak.

They hadn't dropped a game since April 23 (!) in the first round against the Hawks, but now they'll have to quickly move on from this one.

A massive night for Wembanyama

By Jake Nisse

Wembanyama's youth showed at times in Games 1 and 2, but he produced his best performance of the series tonight, as he racked up 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three blocks.

The Frenchman was tremendous down the stretch.

Knicks drop Game 3 at raucous MSG as Spurs strike back in NBA Finals

By Andrew Battifarano

The first NBA Finals game in Manhattan since 1999 had Madison Square rocking.

But the Knicks couldn’t make more magic happen in a 115-111 Game 3 loss to the Spurs on Monday night.

New York struggled to get the offense rolling in the second half and was outscored in both the third and fourth quarters.

Spurs hold on! San Antonio wins 115-111

By Jake Nisse

We've got a series.

After two devastating losses at home, the Spurs steal a road win right back and bring the series to a 2-1 deficit - rather, of course, then a 3-0 lead for the Knicks.

Remember, all three games have been close, and now the Spurs are guaranteed another home game fior Game 5.

Castle holds his nerve and drains two free throws

By Jake Nisse

What a test of nerve for the 21-year-old, and he passes.

After an intentional foul from the Knicks, Castle makes both of his free throws to give San Antonio a four-point lead.

6.8 seconds remain.

OG answers!

By Jake Nisse

The Knicks aren't dead yet. Anunoby makes an incredibly tough corner three with Harper draped over him, cutting the lead to just two with only 3 seconds coming off the clock.

New York has life, and this suddenly looks way nervier for San Antonio.
