ORLANDO — It happened again.
Landry Shamet’s right shoulder appeared to pop out of its socket in the first quarter of Saturday’s 133-121 loss to the Magic, resembling the dislocation that sidelined the guard for months last season.

The impact appeared to dislodge Shamet’s shoulder, sending the 28-year-old darting to the locker room while holding his arm.
Officially, Shamet was ruled out with a right shoulder injury and will undergo a further evaluation “in the coming days,” according to head coach Mike Brown. Adding insult to injury, Shamet was whistled for a foul on the screen by Carter.
“It was tough, man,” Karl-Anthony Towns said. “He’s been playing his ass off. He’s been such a big contributor to our team, and these last couple weeks, he’s been able to show the NBA and fans of New York why he’s so valuable.
“It sucks. It sucks. It sucks that that happened.”
During preseason a little more than a year ago, Shamet suffered the initial injury to his shooting shoulder but opted to rehab instead of surgery. He returned in December and played the remainder of last season with the Knicks, then emerged this campaign as an important part of the rotation — even starting six games because of injuries to others.
Dislocated shoulders are susceptible to reinjury without surgery, which likely would’ve sidelined Shamet for at least six months. Now, he’s probably going to contemplate a similar decision, which is more weighty considering Shamet’s contract is not guaranteed.
“Obviously, first and foremost, we hope he’s good — physically that’s tough, but more so mentally,” Josh Hart said. “So that’s always tough seeing someone like Lan, someone who’d been battling and feel like it’s just a freak accident here and there. So it’s tough. Now, it’s like they say, next man up, and we’ve got to figure out.”
Shamet’s contract wouldn’t become fully guaranteed until early January, meaning they could waive him and sign another free agent if the recovery is long term.
The Knicks were already missing forward OG Anunoby because of a hamstring strain. He is out until at least Nov. 30, when the defensive stalwart will be reevaluated.
Without Shamet on Saturday, Brown gave more minutes to rookie Mohamed Diawara and second-year guard Tyler Kolek.
Mikal Bridges, who is the closest on the team to Shamet, said his buddy was in good spirits.
“Wouldn’t want that for anybody, to go down and get hurt in the game, especially Landry, who I’m close with, and dealing with probably the same shoulder thing,” Bridges said. “Just praying for the best and hoping everything is OK. Definitely going to need him out there.”
