PHOENIX — After a wretched offensive showing Tuesday playing without Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, the Nets appear to be on the verge of getting Irving back. Irving was upgraded to probable for their game Thursday at the Suns.

The All-Star point guard was a late scratch Tuesday at San Antonio with right calf soreness. The Nets went on to lose, 106-98, to the Spurs, their third straight defeat since Durant went down with a knee injury.

Irving did not require an MRI exam, and the Nets were confident the injury would be minor.

“Just reported a little tightness,” coach Jacque Vaughn said Tuesday. “It’s essentially just day-to-day. We’ll check on him [Wednesday] and hopefully this is short-term.”

Durant sprained his right MCL on Jan. 8 in Miami. He didn’t fly with the Nets on this five-game road trip, and won’t be reevaluated until early next week.

“We’ve got the guys to do it, and we’ve seen that. I think guys have got to stay poised and stay together, and that’s what it is,” Ben Simmons said. “We can’t expect … we can’t rely on Kev and Ky every night. Everyone has to step up and do their job, regardless of who’s going to be starting or who’s playing.”

After sitting out for five straight games, Cam Thomas had 15 points in 29:53 at San Antonio, shooting 6-for-12 overall albeit 0-for-4 from 3-point range.

“It felt great to be with the guys,” Thomas said. “Obviously I’d like to have hit more 3s, but it’s just game rhythm, getting back in the game, flowing again. So I’m just happy to be back there playing with the guys. I had an opportunity, so I want to continue to improve and get better.”

Nic Claxton has blocked three or more shots in nine straight games. At 23, he’s the youngest player to do so since 22-year-old Rudy Gobert for the Jazz in January 2015.

Suns forward Cam Johnson is expected to make his return from a 37-game absence due to a torn meniscus. A career .392 percent shooter from deep, he has played just eight games this season. Josh Okogie is out for Phoenix with a nasal fracture. He suffered a broken nose Monday at Memphis on an inadvertent elbow from teammate Deandre Ayton.

Simmons partnered with non-profit Operation Warm to give new winter coats to over 2,600 children in need through his annual Ben Simmons Coat Giveback, serving six schools and three community groups in New York.

The event took place Friday when Simmons surprised students at P.S. 124 Silas B. Dutcher Elementary in Brooklyn.

“I love this event and am proud to be doing this in New York,” Simmons said. “A new coat creates an opportunity to empower a young person by giving them confidence, offering them warmth and helping students attend school and play with their friends.”
