This conspiracy theory is more believable.
Kyrie Irving took a shot at the Warriors for playing Kevin Durant in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, only to have him rupture his Achilles and possibly miss the entire 2019-’20 season.
“A lot of people have responsibilities for why that happen on a national stage. We all know K was not ready to play in that environment,” Irving said at Nets Media Day on Friday. “We all know that, whether people want to admit or not. He was out 31 days … We put him out there to sell a product that came before the person, Kevin.
“And now I am here to protect that. I am going to be the protector and not let anyone infiltrate that circle. ‘Hey K, do you, get right. We’ll be fine.’”
Durant had missed a month of the postseason prior to his Finals return with what was described as a calf strain. He collapsed to the court early in the second quarter against the Raptors with the serious injury.
Durant decided to join Irving with the Nets in Brooklyn’s shocking free-agency splash. Irving has vowed not to let the Nets make the same mistake the Warriors did.
“I’ll be over-patient with Kevin because I don’t want that to happen to anyone ever again especially on that type of stage where he was answering questions about whether he would be back or not. I want him to be 101 percent healthy,” Irving said in his first press conference since joining the Nets.
