The Lakers again were tempted to add to LeBron James’ cast of characters.

Los Angeles agreed to a deal with former Knicks forward Michael Beasley on Friday, showing their continued push to assemble a veteran core around James, who signed as a free agent July 1. Beasley reached terms on a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Lakers, ESPN reported.

Since James announced his move to Hollywood for four years and $154 million, the Lakers have bulldozed through free agency to add playmakers with dominant personalities. Beasley joins point guard Rajon Rondo, center JaVale McGee and forward Lance Stephenson and adds to the questions some have about how the team’s chemistry will hold up.

Beasley, who played with the Knicks last season after bouncing around the NBA, was thought to be off the Knicks’ radar since they signed 23-year-old forward Mario Hezonja on a one-year, $6.5 million deal. The move signaled the Knicks were looking to go young while getting a fresh start under new head coach David Fizdale in 2018-19.

Beasley, 29, thrived offensively last season in the absence of Kristaps Porzingis, who went down in February with a torn ACL. The former No. 2-overall pick of the Heat averaged 13.2 points per game and 5.6 rebounds in 74 games.
