Anthony Davis was forced to exit the Lakers’ 117-87 win over the Knicks on Tuesday night after injuring his back in the third quarter.

The Lakers superstar suffered a lower back injury after he contested a Julius Randle layup with 2:45 left in the third quarter and fell violently on his back. He was able to walk gingerly off the court and into the locker room.

X-Rays were negative and the Lakers termed the injury “a sacral contusion.” He is expected to have an MRI exam and miss at least the next two games.

The Lakers, who are legit title contenders, only can hope this isn’t a long-term injury.

Earlier, Davis rejected a four-year, $146 million max extension, according to Yahoo Sports, as he would be eligible for a larger contract with the Lakers by becoming a free agent.
