Warriors star Steph Curry may have notched the NBA’s scoring title on Sunday, but LeBron James wants some recognition, too.
James’ 25 points in the Lakers’ 110-98 regular-season-finale win over the Pelicans on Sunday earned him his 17th straight season averaging 25 points a game, an NBA record.
The 36-year-old future Hall of Famer took to social media to respond to the stat, writing, “Since I was 19 years old! And I’m a pass first guy. Always been. That’s why I’m never mentioned with the greats of scoring huh?? That’s perfect cause I’d rather keep it that way!”
His message included a graphic from StatMuse that showed the scoring gap between James and other greats. Michael Jordan, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant and Karl Malone all had 12 consecutive seasons averaging at least 25 points.
James played in 45 of 72 games this season after being sidelined with a high-right ankle sprain in March.
Despite tweaking his ankle in Sunday’s win, James said he’s “good to go” for this week’s NBA play-in tournament. The Lakers, who are the No. 7 seed, will take on Curry’s Warriors on Wednesday for a chance at a playoff berth.
