LeBron James finally landed his first win with his new Los Angeles Lakers, but it’s away from the court where his real troubles lie.
Ever since his offseason move to join the Lakers, James’ reception in Los Angeles hasn’t exactly gone smoothly.
A mural of “The King” was displayed in LA shortly after he had agreed to a four-year, $208 million deal on July 1.
The site of the mural quickly turned into a battleground, getting vandalised twice in the span of five days.
In the end muralist Jonas Never was forced to cover up the image with white pain and getting the LABron-era off to a shaky start.
But fans defacing a mural are the least of James’ worries after a major scare was sent his way over the past few days.
A string of high-profile burglaries have struck the Hollywood hills in recent times, with baseball superstar Yasiel Puig and Rihanna among those hit.
After four people were arrested by the LAPD, a list containing a further 12 names was found with James’ name included.
The best basketball player on the planet didn’t hesitate after finding out he was a potential target and went about adding some firepower to his LA mansion.
James has gone to the extraordinary lengths of adding a reported 10 armed guards to patrol the grounds of his house, including off-duty police officers.
Along with the new additions to the grounds, the NBA’s security team has also become involved in the plans to protect the games biggest asset.
James stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 250 pounds, so it’s fair to say nobody is going to be taking him down any time soon. The measures, however, have been put in place for his wife and three kids.
With the beefed up security now in place, the would-be burglars should learn the lesson many in the NBA already have. You don’t mess with The King.
