Wearing a Yankees cap, LeBron James said today he hasn’t given any thought to signing a contract extension with the Cavaliers this summer.
Cleveland can offer the extension on July 18, the three-year anniversary of him signing his previous deal. Or he can head into free agency after the 2010 season.
“I don’t know,” James said when asked if he’ll sign. “I haven’t thought about it just yet. I’m just going to take time off from basketball and not think about contracts or the game period. I’ll relax with my family we’ll figure out once it comes from them.”
Asked if losing the Eastern Conference Finals to Orlando in six games would affect his decision, James said, “No it doesn’t. I’ve always expressed the simple fact that I love playing here. The fans were great, they’ve always been great. Like I said before, since I was an 18-year-old kid.
“Losing this series doesn’t affect how I will approach the game here in Cleveland.”
