This was an incredibly emotional episode of “Big Apple Buckets” honoring Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and the seven other lives lost Sunday in a tragic helicopter accident outside of Los Angeles. We open the show hearing clips from the emotional reactions of Doc Rivers, Elle Duncan and Tracy McGrady to Kobe’s and Gianna’s deaths.

Kazeem Famuyide shares his emotions from losing Kobe and what he meant to him and his family as an icon on and off the court. Kaz talks about taking his Nigerian mother to Kobe’s final game at Madison Square Garden and how grateful she was to see Kobe play one final time, and reflects on how difficult this must be for Vanessa Bryant and the family’s three surviving daughters. Kaz and I look at the impact Bryant left on the game, his advocacy for women’s basketball and how he worked in retirement to be an excellent father.

Carlos Boozer, Kobe’s teammate with the Lakers during the 2014-2015 season, then joins the show. Boozer talks about how Kobe was a great teammate — and the ultimate competitor. The former NBA big man also looks fondly at Kobe’s success in new endeavors after playing basketball.

New York Post sports columnist Mike Vaccaro then drops by the show from Los Angeles. Vaccaro examines just how important Kobe was to Los Angeles and the emotional Lakers game scheduled for Friday. He recalls covering Kobe and examines the relationship Kobe had with the media.

Former NBA referee Bob Delaney then joins the show. Delaney shares his memories of officiating Kobe’s games, which includes a great story of a conversation they had after Delaney called a foul on Kobe early in a game.

Rest in peace to Kobe, GiGi and all of those lost in that tragic accident.
