The bludgeoning didn’t stop at the final horn.
As if the 41-point loss wasn’t enough, Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni hammered his players following a franchise-record-worst playoff defeat in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals.
“We played soft, actually,” D’Antoni told reporters after the 126-85 destruction by the Warriors in the Bay Area. “I mean, you can’t do that with these guys. These guys are good. We still might not have won [without playing soft]. If you want points, you have to play well. We didn’t make shots early, we turned it over. It was not a very good game, and we’re going to have to play a lot better on Tuesday.”
The good news is his players agreed. At least they didn’t delude themselves.
“He’s right,” said James Harden, who had 20 points but was one of the main culprits on the defensive end. “We weren’t as aggressive as we needed to be.”
They weren’t nearly tough enough either.
