Taj Gibson has played for eight head coaches over his 11 NBA seasons. He likes what he’s seen from interim coach Mike Miller during his first two weeks at the helm of the Knicks.

“Mike deserves credit. He’s been with us since preseason, and guys are real familiar with him and guys understand where he’s coming from,” Gibson said after practice Thursday. “He’s one of the guys you can go into his office and have a conversation with him.

“Even when he was an assistant, he was always staying late and getting shots with guys and always helping guys out. So it was easy for him to jump right in and ask him questions. Guys feel comfortable with him, so it’s made it easier.”

Miller was promoted from head coach of the Knicks’ G-League affiliate in Westchester to David Fizdale’s coaching staff to open this season. The 55-year-old former college coach took over when Fizdale was axed on Dec. 6. The Knicks have posted a 3-3 record under Miller entering Friday’s game in Miami.

“He’s kind of laid back, but he’s strictly business as far as practice goes,” point guard Elfrid Payton said. “Not wasting a lot of time. Kind of in and out. Straight to it and we’re out of here. As far as his demeanor, he’s kind of laid back. I think that’s cool. Like I said, he’s laid back, but when it’s time to get to business, it’s time to work, so I think that’s a good approach to have.”

Julius Randle (sore leg) and Frank Ntilikina (illness) returned to practice after sitting out Wednesday and have been listed as probable to play against the Heat. Miller said Allonzo Trier participated in practice and “is finishing up concussion protocol,” but Trier and Wayne Ellington (Achilles) remain out. Reggie Bullock (neck) practiced and is “getting closer,” Miller added.
