The Rockets complained about the officiating of Game 1. They believed referees cost them a potential NBA title last year. Their reward for those gripes: the official they despise the most.

Scott Foster, come on down.

The veteran ref will call Game 2 of the Rockets’ Western Conference semifinals against the Warriors Tuesday night, which adds even more intrigue to this fascinating series. Foster, in his 25th year in the NBA, has not been assigned a Rockets game since James Harden called him out after he fouled out in Houston’s Feb. 21 loss to the Lakers, saying he shouldn’t do any more of the team’s games because of his personal issues with the star guard.

“It’s lingering, and it’s something that has to be looked at for sure,” Harden said then. “For sure, it’s personal. For sure. I don’t think he should be able to even officiate our games anymore, honestly.”

Harden said Foster is “just rude and arrogant” when interacting with players. He was fined $25,000 by the NBA for his comments. The Rockets complained about calls in their 104-100 loss to the Warriors in Game 1, believing Harden was fouled on several 3-point attempts that went uncalled.

In the NBA’s two-minute report, the league said two foul calls against Stephen Curry were missed that would’ve fouled him out and a missed traveling on Klay Thompson, but nothing relating to Harden’s 3-point attempt that could have tied the game in the final seconds.

“I just want a fair chance,” Harden said. “Call the game the way it’s supposed to be called and we’ll live with the results.”

Enter Scott Foster. Get your popcorn ready.
