Alize Johnson is no longer a rental.
After providing a spark off the bench while playing on back-to-back 10-day contracts, Johnson signed a multiyear deal Sunday to remain with the Nets when he could’ve opted for more playing time on a less-loaded roster.
Johnson’s agent, George Langberg, told ESPN that the deal is worth a maximum of $4.1 million and that his client turned down more guaranteed money from other interested teams. He earned about $100,000 on each of his 10-day deals, based on the NBA minimum salary for a player with his experience and the length of the season.
Even with all their big-time additions, the Nets had available their prorated tax mid-level exception, allowing Johnson to sign for up to three years.
Originally a second-round pick of the Pacers in 2018, Johnson played 31 career NBA games and bounced around the G-League before getting his shot with the injury-depleted Nets on March 22. He is averaging 7.8 points on 65.7 percent shooting from the field, plus 5.8 rebounds in 13.3 minutes, over six games. That includes career highs of 23 points and 15 rebounds in a loss to the Jazz.

“When I got here, they just made me feel comfortable in my first game in Utah, just telling me to go out there and play really hard and play with some energy and be confident,” Johnson said last week. Hearing that from Steve [Nash] and James [Harden] and other guys like Jeff [Green] … these are guys you grow up playing “[NBA] 2K” with, so when you get out there on the floor and you’re playing with them, it’s dope.”
