The Summer League showdown between the top two picks in the 2021 NBA Draft did not disappoint.
Jalen Green, the No. 2 pick, and the Rockets won the hyped battle against Cade Cunningham, the first overall pick, and the Pistons, 111-91, on Tuesday night.
Green, who has continued to prove he can adjust to multiple defenses, led the Rockets with 25 points on 6-of-11 shooting, and went 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. The G League Ignite product added five rebounds and three assists.
Cunningham led Detroit with 20 points, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range. He added four rebounds, three steals and two assists.
The top two rookies in the 2021 NBA Draft class had their moments on Day 3 of Summer League — where Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant was sitting court side to “watch my lil bros” Green and the 24th overall pick Josh Christopher, who added 15 points in Houston’s win.
At one point, Cunningham caught Green’s ankles and drained a three that was met with “oohs” and “ahhs” from the fans in Las Vegas.

His final 3-pointer pushed the Rockets to an 18-point lead with two minutes left. Green, whose confidence was unmatched in the face-off, managed to escape Detroit’s traps and other defensive switches.
A Green-Cunningham matchup will be a sight to see in the regular season. After the Rockets win over the Pistons, Green explained why playing Detroit will be different than other teams.

The Rockets take on the Raptors Thursday in Las Vegas, while the Pistons don’t play until Friday against the Knicks.
