This could be a Knicks blessing — or curse.
Charles Oakley posted an undated photo to Instagram of him and Kevin Durant on Wednesday, just hours after Durant opted out of his contract with the Warriors to become an unrestricted free agent.
“I see you out and about in my city. Wishing (Durant’s Instagram handle) a speedy recovery,” Oakley wrote.
That Durant is in the area is no surprise. The 30-year-old superstar underwent surgery to repair a torn Achilles in Manhattan just a few weeks ago and has been rehabbing in the city ever since.
The Nets and Knicks are expected to pursue Durant — who will likely miss all of next season — once free agency begins on Sunday. In the past, Oakley, who has had a contentious relationship with Knicks owner James Dolan, said he would be more than happy to offer advice to any free agent.
“What do I tell free agents? They need to be talk to me, No. 1, if they want to be happy in New York,” Oakley told reporters in May. “They need to talk to me.”
In 2010, Oakley advised LeBron James not to sign with the Knicks.
Oakley is currently suing Madison Square Garden and Dolan for unspecified damages on grounds including defamation, assault and battery relating to Oakley being forcibly removed from the Garden during a Knicks game in February 2017.
On the court, Oakley in May said he does not wish the Knicks bad luck.
