The NFL season officially ended Sunday night, and it’s been over for more than a month for the two local teams.

The sight of one of New York’s biggest star athletes running with a football in his hands had to be a welcomed sight for the Nets’ fan base.

Kevin Durant ran diagonal sprints with a football in hand across the length of the gym at the Nets’ practice facility on Tuesday.

Still not expected to play this season following offseason Achilles surgery, Durant at least looked to be moving well in what coach Kenny Atkinson described as something “he’s been doing as part of his rehab.” Durant also showed off his arm with lengthy passes of the football across the gym to one of his trainers.

Atkinson added there was “no update” on Kyrie Irving, who was expected to miss at least a week with sprained knee suffered Saturday against Washington.

Spencer Dinwiddie is looking forward to facing fellow Colorado alum Alec Burks when the Nets face Golden State on Wednesday night, saying “I fancy myself to be the best Colorado Buffalo playing in the NBA currently.”

Asked by a reporter if he’s the school’s all-time best, Dinwiddie scoffed and replied: “No, no, Chauncey (Billups), come on, now. That’s ‘Big Shot’. That’s the house that ‘Big Shot’ built. He’s like Colorado’s legend from Colorado, the whole nine. I’m not going against the legend, but right now currently, I think of myself as that guy.”

Shooting guard Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot’s second 10-day contract expired Tuesday, one day after he scored 13 points in 25 minutes against Phoenix. The Nets must decide whether to sign him for the remainder of the season.

“They’re in there talking about it right now,” Atkinson said. “Nothing’s been decided, but obviously he’s played well for us all-around on both sides of the ball.”

The Nets turned down an offer from Houston of Clint Capela for a package featuring Jarrett Allen and Taurean Prince, according to a report on The Ringer website.
