David Lee and LeBron James will be working out together this summer, but not for the reason Knicks fans have fantasized about.
Lee, along with the Nets’ Brooke Lopez, were the two local players selected for the U.S. team’s roster this summer. The roster includes 27 players that will work out this summer. A group will be picked from those 27 that will play in this year’s World Championships and the 2012 Olympics in London.
James, Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade headline the roster, but contract situations could prevent James, Wade and Chris Bosh from participating. All three are free agents and have said that status is their top priority.
The Knicks will likely be pursuing all three if they choose not to re-sign with their respective teams.
Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni will be an assistant for the national team’s head coach Mike Krzyzewski.
